To assist your plant in meeting these ever-increasing standards, MPI offers a complete line of Magnetic Separators and Metal Detectors to assist manufacturers to safeguard their products and processing equipment from foreign contaminants. MPI designs, engineers and builds a variety of equipment for the food industry, including Drawer magnets, Drum magnets, Free-flow magnets, Grates and tubes, Liquid conveying systems, Plate magnets, Magnetic chutes, Pneumatic conveying systems, Separation rolls and Suspended permanent magnets. MPI also offers a full line of Metal Detectors and Checkweighers. Contact us for more information.
The job and location of the magnet will vary depending upon the process and the setting. Magnets are typically found in three areas (application sites) within a facility:
Primary applications, where incoming grain arrives at the plant receiving areas.
Secondary applications, where grain enters the plant for processing.
Finishing applications, where processed grain, now flour or another end-product, is packaged or loaded into trucks for distribution to end users
The function of the magnet varies among these three applications and can best be detailed by looking at the chart below:

Magnetic Products, Inc. designs, engineers and builds a variety of equipment for the recycling industry including Eddy current separator, Drum magnets, Cross belt separators, Suspended magnetic separators , Separation rolls, magnetic belt feeders and Metal detectors. By continually developing inventive solutions to the challenges faced by recyclers, MPI is among the leaders in the manufacture of Eddy Current Separators and heavy duty Magnetic Separators. MPI will partner with you to evaluate your application and offer recommendations to meet your operational, environmental and financial goals.
With nearly 30 years of experience in the recycling industry, Magnetic Products, Inc. (MPI) offers the expertise, know-how and equipment needed to maximize your recycling processes. MPI offers a variety of"best in class" solutions, including free testing for eddy current applications. MPI knows that better separation equipment means higher profitability and less downtime for its customers.
MPI recently designed, built and shipped a Metal Detection system used to separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals from ceramic materials salvaged in automotive catalytic converters. The system consists of a Cross Belt Separator which is suspended above a moving bed of material from which the metals are to be removed. Material is then conveyed by a Magnetic Belt Feeder to further separate these metals from commingled material. From there, material travels down a Belt Conveyor with an integrated Metal Detector that provides the signal required to reject the non-ferrous contaminated materials.
The forestry industry faces a number of unique challenges. Whether running a sawmill, an engineered wood plant or a paper and pulp factory, the cost of operation is enormous and profit lies in producing the best product without downtime or wasted resources. MPIs line of metal detectors and magnetic separators, including Suspended permanent magnets, Separation Rolls/Magnetic Pulleys and Drum magnets, keeps your processing equipment safe from damage and your product free from metal contaminants. Protecting your equipment from metal contamination means less downtime, higher production and fewer expensive repairs.
MPI offers a number of unique Cassel metal detectors to the forestry industry, including the three-sided VT/ST metal detector and the Whole log metal detector with its exclusive round aperture. Cassel's exclusive four-quadrant technology is considered the world standard by global designers of engineered wood plants.
MPI partners with you to maximize productivity by safeguarding your product and equipment from contamination and damage caused by tramp metal. Aware of the rugged demands of the mining and aggregate industries, MPI magnetic separators and metal detectors are engineered and built to withstand the harshest environments. MPI designs and manufactures a full range of both magnetic separators to meet todays high standards of product quality including Magnetic Drum Separators, Cross belt separators, Suspended magnets, Separation rolls, magnetic belt feeders and Metal detectors.
Magnetic separators are installed in any product line where ferrous contaminants must be removed to ensure and protect product purity, prevent damage to machinery, and eliminate hazards associated with tramp metals. As the name implies, magnetic separators use high-strength magnets to attract, capture and retain ferrous metal. Although the product is fairly clean when it gets to the secondary production processes, minute particles of tramp metals may still exist and could make their way into the final product. The use of a metal detector can mitigate this risk.
The pharmaceutical industry must meet stringent requirements for product purity. MPI provides a complete line of metal separators and metal detectors engineered to fulfill the parameters of pharmaceutical and chemical industries, including sanitary finish, special coatings, stainless steel enclosures, special seals (to meet IP66 and IP67 standards) and detailed design.
MPI offers a wide range of magnetic separators and metal detectors to the textile industry including Drawer magnets, Drum magnets, Free-flow magnets, Grates and tube magnets, Magnetic chutes, Magnetic rotary feeders, Plate magnets, Separation rolls and Suspended magnets. Especially well-suited to the textile industry is MPI's exclusive METAL SHARK® COMBI, a high sensitivity metal detector that reliably and consistently senses fine metal particles (FE 0.5 mm) over wide widths (3 ft. - 26.6 ft.) of the belt or product. The COMBI is your solution whenever you have a product where small metal contaminants are an issue. The COMBI is the"absolute, hands-down, best solution" whenever you need to know the location of the metal with a high degree of accuracy across the product width.
A variety of unwanted items, such as metal, wood or glass, can find their way into the manufacturing process in a host of industries including plastics. Some contaminants occur as a result of processing, while others are simply inherent to the product itself. Although the source of tramp metals must be found and eliminated, the most important job of production personnel is to implement safeguards that capture and remove contaminants before they pollute final products or damage other equipment. Various types of equipment are used to capture tramp metals, including magnetic separators and metal detectors.
